chronic disease, we can do something and we need to do it.

I just saw the video for this week, face to face with chronic disease: http://www.who.int/chp/chronic_disease_report/media/video/en/index.html I strongly recommend it.

We can prevent most of the chronic disease and as the director of the WHO said the ways to do it are well known and achievable. So, What are we as a society waiting? Why there are not been used? Prevention. It does not sound so difficult....
We can make a difference.

hi marina, i wonder the same thing at times. i think because everything is tied up in politics. corporate profits get in the way of what is good for people. but you are right...we need to take action now. especially because of the high rates of diabetes and obesity among children

Marina, I wish we had more health care professionals about prevention scheme. I am positive that there is going to be a shift in diagram in an early future. Implementing new teaching strategies in medical schools for prevention methods is a great start. I think looking at patient in a holistic way, as an individual, rather than just treating him/her would do that! Something that I have noticed in this country is that Physicians often don’t spend enough time with their patients to explain and go over issues! This needs to be changed and our Dr.s need to know how to offer prevention techniques before treating individual. Lets hope for a better future ☺

marina, i agree with you. it's a huge issue as we discussed in class last night. i think education and preventive methods are the best way to stop and even hopefully reverse the trend. i believe in what dr shahi said, that most people do want to help themselves out in any way they can. maybe that means the public health sector should find innovative ways to facilitate ppl's helping themselves against diabetes/obesity.
